Conservation Volunteering

"As Friends of the national park we can offer valuable time and helping hands to put something positive back into the landscapes we love."

Clare Kelly,  former conservation team leader

Our team of friendly conservation volunteers support the practical work of the Peak District National Park's Ranger Service. All the tasks we do are supervised by experienced rangers or wardens, and you don't need any previous experience. Everyone is welcome, although children and young people under 16 need to be accompanied by an adult. Sorry - no dogs! (because of livestock). These are the kind of things we do

  • dry stone walling
  • pond work
  • laying hedges
  • digging ditches
  • felling trees
  • woodland management
  • repairing footpaths

We'll give you

  • training and supervision in using tools safely
  • travel expenses
  • hot drinks and biscuits
  • exercise in the great outdoors
  • gloves to wear and tools to use
  • a chance to put something back into the Peak District!

You'll need to

  • not mind getting your hands dirty
  • be reasonably fit
  • bring a packed lunch, snacks and water
  • bring a sun hat, sun cream and insect repellent in the summer
  • bring a hat, gloves and warm clothes in the winter

Have a look at our events calendar to see if we've got any dates coming up. Please get in touch with Lindsay Doyle-Price for a registration form and to find out more.
