Oct 27th 2010 @ 19:30 Conservation Conversation
English Heritage does loads of conservation work in the Peak District.
As well as iconic historic buildings like Peveril Castle, it works in partnership with other organisations such as the Peak District National Park Authority to look after a whole range of archaeological sites, monuments and historic landscapes such as Arbor Low. It provides specialist advice to landowners and local authorities about the conservation management of our cultural heritage. It also gives conservation grants too - including a recent one to Calver Weir.
Jon Humble gives the low down on what English Heritage is working on now. His talk and presentation will include the opportunity to ask questions.
Cost: £5 non members; free Friends of the Peak District members
Download booking form, or contact Saskia Palmer to book a place.

Oct 30th 2010 @ 10:00 Shriek for the Peak Abseil
We are looking for intrepid supporters to take part in a sponsored abseil at Miller's Dale Bridge near Monsal Head to raise funds for us.
It costs just £25 to enter, and we ask you to also collect as much sponsorship as you can for Friends of the Peak District.
The bridge is 90 feet high, with wonderful views - so you'll have a great experience, while raising funds for a brilliant cause.
You can choose the time of day you would like to do it, and the abseil is open to anyone aged 12 or over (though under 18s must be accompanied by a parent or guardian).
To find out more see our booking form or contact Danny Anderson on 0114 266 5822.

Oct 30th 2010 @ 13:30 Stanton Moor walk
Join us for this two hour walk around Stanton Moor and the Nine Ladies stone circle.
Stanton Moor was the home to Britain's longest green protest, when eco-warriors camped there for ten years. Friends of the Peak District and other local groups were also part of the campaign to successfully stop the precious landscape being quarried.
Come along and also find out about another three stone circles in the area, Duke's Drive and what the Canadian Land Army were doing there during World War One. Peak District National Park Authority ranger, Andrew Leadbetter and Friends of the Peak District trustee Anthea Rawlence will be on hand to guide the walk and answer questions.
Cost: £2.50 - all funds raised will go to Friends of the Peak District and the Greenaway Workshop in Matlock.
To book a place, contact Anthea Rawlence at mag@winster.org or 01629 650480
