Guardians of the Landscape
Friends of the Peak District (FPD) is the charity working to safeguard Peak District landscapes for everyone who loves and enjoys them. We are the recognised voluntary society for the Peak District National Park and welcome all to support our work.
Our aim is a Peak District that changes with time but remains beautiful forever. As a constructive, forward-looking organisation we work for the continued care of the Peak District, for attention to the needs of local communities and National Park visitors, and for development which respects the local landscape character.
Our vision is of a beautiful, diverse and sustainable countryside. We want to see environmentally friendly farming and forestry, and wild places unspoilt by development. We see thriving villages and attractive towns, connected by excellent public transport. FPD works to make this happen by advising people and communities who want to protect and enhance their local countryside. We scrutinise and influence planning applications and campaign for sustainable, environmentally friendly transport and land use policies that favour diversity and natural beauty in the landscape.
The Friends of the Peak District (which is run by CPRE, Peak District & South Yorkshire) look after the Peak District National Park, the Derbyshire High Peak and the six parishes of North East Derbyshire (Eckington, Unstone, Holmesfield, Killamarsh, Dronfield, Barlow).
