Exclusive Event at East Lodge Country House Hotel -
15th May 2008

Our annual Peak District Guardian event was held this year in conjunction with the launch of our Corporate Membership scheme at East Lodge Country House Hotel, Rowsley. The hotel has recently gone through a major refurbishment and won awards including a Condé Nast Reader Award 2008 and Derbyshire’s Restaurant of the Year.

LOOKING TO THE FUTURE. COUNTRYSIDE GROUP’S INVITATION TO THINK ABOUT A VISION OF THE COUNTRYSIDE IN 2026

The CPRE, Peak District & South Yorkshire Branch Annual General Meeting - Farming and the Future of the Landscape - will be held at the Agricultural Business Centre, Bakewell on Tuesday 17th June 2008 at 6.30pm. Debating the key issues facing the future for agriculture in the Peak District and South Yorkshire will be head of Rural Policy officer at CPRE National Office, Tom Oliver, and Peak District sheep farmer Kath Burkinshaw. Wine and canapés will be served following the usual business meeting, prior to the speakers at 7.30pm. See Press Release 29th May 2008.

'Countryside Farmers of the Year' Sue & Robert Helliwell welcome us on a guided tour of their
780-acre livestock farm and to enjoy a locally-sourced picnic lunch. Meet the animals, find out
about daily farm life and take the opportunity to join a more in-depth discussion about key issues
affecting upland farming.

Shows, Fairs, Markets and Open Gardens 2008

Friends of the Peak District will again be attending a number of venues during 2008. You are welcome to come and visit our stand and talk about our work. Details below:

  • Sunday 8th June – Edale Country Day, School Playing Fields, 10.30-5pm
  • Saturday 14th June - Birchover Open Gardens, 1-5.30pm
  • Saturday 9th August – Manifold Show, Ilam 10-5pm
  • Saturday 23rd August – Froggatt Show, Froggatt, 2-5.15pm
  • Saturday 6th September – Dore Show, Village Hall, 2-4.30pm

Farmers Markets:

  • Sunday 6th July. Castleton, Village Hall, 10-3pm

Open Gardens:

  • Saturday 14th June, Birchover
  • Saturday 19th July, Winster

Events Programme

Our events programme has been devised to interest a wide range of people who enjoy different aspects of the Peak District countryside.  The 'Walks & Talks' events are free to Friends of the Peak District, CPRE members and Peak District Guardians. Non-members are charged £3 per person and £5 for two people. Charges for the Special Events vary. We will let you know the cost when you telephone to book for the event.
