Rock Climbing - Danger or Difficulty?

4th Feb 2014 @ 20:00

~ Steve McClure and James McHaffie will discuss what inspires them to push the boundaries at the second Friends of the Peak District Winter Lecture.  On the face of it, they operate at opposite ends of the climbing spectrum.  Steve is renowned for super-desperate sport routes while James is boldness personified with numerous heart-stopping ascents to his name including Indian Face in a day.

What makes them tick?  What are the different motivations for the committed sports climber and the bold traditionalist?  Steve’s mammoth efforts on the likes of Overshadow (9a+) and the unrepeated Mutation have required months of commitment and repetition while James has made a speciality of climbing bold routes in immaculate style often on-sight.  But are they really so different?

There will be plenty of opportunity for audience participation plus the Lescar’s excellent beer selection to sample.

Entry costs: £5 (Please pay on the door).

All proceeds will go to the Friends of the Peak District.
