This walk climbs the wooded slopes of the Derwent Valley to the spectacular cliffs and pinnacles of Alport Castles. From here we descend and stroll along the shores of Howden and Derwent Reservoirs, past the Victorian Gothic dams made famous by the ‘Dambusters’ RAF Squadron who trained here ahead of their daring mission in World War II.

This is a beginners level walk of 7.5 miles and very easy to navigate along paths and tracks. There could be small obstacles such as gates and stiles and the route could involve crossing open farmland. However the terrain should be easy under foot with trainers or walking boots (good condition and good tread) being suitable.  Please note that if you wear trainers they are not likely to be waterproof and the chances are you will have wet feet by the end of the walk.
