The Haythornthwaite Appeal

“Ethel and Gerald were true heroes of Britain’s environmental heritage.
Please help Friends of the Peak District ensure this work and vision continue,”
Julia Bradbury, Vice President

The founders of our charity, Ethel and Gerald Haythornthwaite, left a heritage that millions of Peak District visitors and residents have unknowingly benefited from.

As our charity nears its 90th anniversary, we need new Ethels and Geralds. People who care passionately about the Peak District and can help this work to secure a legacy for future generations.

Supporting The Haythornthwaite Appeal

Please contact Susan Belt if you would like to support this appeal and enable us to maintain the core work of our charity, leaving a legacy for future generations to benefit from.

We are asking for help from anyone who cares about the Peak District, but particularly from those who could donate £500 a year or more to support this vital work. People able to contribute such an amount will play a leading role in maintaining Ethel and Gerald’s vision of a living, working, beautiful countryside. As such we will recognise these donors in these enhanced ways:

  • Recording your name on the honour board at Haythornthwaite Wood
  • Inviting you to Friends of the Peak District special events
  • Recording your name in our donor honour list in our magazine and website
  • Sending you our Peakland Guardian magazine

To discuss a gift to The Haythornthwaite Appeal, please contact Susan Belt or call 0114 312 2002.

Or donate today, marking your donation ‘ Haythornthwaite Appeal’

Your donation will help us to continue our vital work, including:

  • Campaigning against off-roading damage
  • Researching and promoting small scale hydro power schemes
  • Campaigning to get overhead powerlines put underground
  • Scrutinising the planning system to protect the Peak
  • Supporting local business by providing planning advice to local businesses wanting to develop sustainably
  • Preventing illegal or irresponsible quarrying

“Please help Friends of the Peak District. It has a fine record of achievement and could do so much more with your help,”
Dame Fiona Reynolds, President of the Friends of the Peak District , and patron of the Haythornthwaite Appeal
