May 26th 2013 Landscape Photography Workshop
An introduction to landscape photography and photographic seeing for the novice and the more experienced hobbyist.
Acclaimed professional photographers Paul Hill MBE and Maria Falconer FRPS give a practical guide to camera handling and composition on location in a beautiful spot of the Peak District.
The workshop takes in the afternoon and early evening to hopefully capture how the light can transform the landscape as the sun sets. You'll need to be able to walk at least two miles across sometimes uneven or wet terrain. Please bring your own camera (and tripod if you've got one), a packed lunch, waterproofs and appropriate footwear.
Time: 2pm- 8pm

May 26th 2013 @ 10:45 Chatsworth and Baslow Edge
We join our friends at Large Outdoors and start at the traditional Derbyshire village of Baslow and head south into the Chatsworth Estate. This first part of the walk is through flat parkland and before long the House itself comes into view. We cross the River Derwent and follow its course through the park laid out in the naturalistic style by Capability Brown in the 1750s.
We may be lucky enough to spot herds of fallow and red deer on the opposite bank. Crossing the river again, we leave the park and head towards the picturesque village of Beeley. From the village we climb uphill through woods and forest to a height of 300m to reach Beeley Moor, which contains the remains of human civilization dating back to the Bronze Age. The views from the moor down into the Derwent Valley are magnificent.
We then re-enter the Chatsworth Estate, but into the wooded hills above the House where we pass two lakes to reach the Hunting Tower. From here there is a fine panorama of the rear of the House and across the central section of the park. From the tower we continue north and enter wilder country as we head downhill to Robin Hood via Dobb Edge and cross a river to reach the inn where we can enjoy a well earned pint! From the inn it's a short, but steep climb onto the moors of Birchen Edge, a famous climbing location where we pass a monument to Nelson.
We then head onto the rear part of Baslow Edge and pass a monument to Wellington and the Eagle Stone. The return to Baslow and the car park is through dense woodland. Afterwards those who want to can join us in the excellent Devonshire Arms pub in Baslow for a drink, or possibly the best carvery in Derbyshire!

Jun 30th 2013 @ 11:00 White Nancy and Bollington
A beginners eight mile circular day walk run by our friends at Large Outdoors, from the Cheshire countryside to the wider fringes of the Peak District National Park.
From Bollington there's a short, stiff ascent to the monument of White Nancy, which on a clear day gives excellent views of Manchester, Liverpool, Cheshire, Snowdonia and Shining Tor. We then descend into the pretty village of Rainow before taking a quiet lane along the Dean Valley to Lamaload Reservoir. We then climb again before another descent back into Rainow. From there we cross a series of fields and end up back at the start point.
The walk takes in a variety of landscapes including hills, fields, woods, a reservoir, a lake and a small village and the folly of White Nancy. After there is the option of going to the pub for those who want to.
The folly we will be visiting, White Nancy, was actually built as a summer house by the Gaskell family, who lived at Ingersley Hall, in about 1815. It is stone built with external rendering and regularly painted white in order to maintain its visibility. It is thought that it may have been built at that time to commemorate the battle of Waterloo. Internally there is a seat all round the wall with a large table in the centre. The table is circular, cut from a single piece of stone. Unfortunately the entrance has since been bricked up and you can no longer gain access.
